Taiwan Presidential Election: A Case Study on Thematic Targeting - Cyber security updates

This report analyzes multiple targeted malware campaigns that leveraged the 2016 Taiwan presidential election as a spear-phishing theme, detailing samples (EvilGrab, IXESHE/Etumbot, SunOrcal/Surtr), their infection and persistence mechanisms, C2 infrastructure, and numerous IOCs (hashes, IPs, domains, registry keys, mutexes), and attributing activity to espionage actors including APT12 while highlighting the importance of security awareness against thematic lures.
