NEWSCASTER - An Iranian Threat Inside Social Media - iSIGHT Partners

iSIGHT Partners publicly disclosed "NEWSCASTER," a coordinated, long-running (since ~2011) Iranian-attributed social media espionage campaign that created credible fake personas and a bogus news site to befriend and spear-phish roughly 2,000 targets — including senior U.S. military, diplomats, journalists, think-tank staff, and defense contractors — to harvest credentials and collect intelligence; the campaign also used malware for potential data exfiltration.
